2. How much do copies cost?: Copies prepared in our office are $0.65 per page ($1.30 minimum). Certified copies are $1.25 per page ($5.00 minimum).

3. What forms of payment do you accept?: We accept cash, checks and money orders. Checks and money orders are payable to the Cortland County Clerk. Credit cards are also accepted with an additional $1.75 convenience fee and 3% charge. American Express is not accepted.

5. Can the County Clerk's office offer legal advice?: The County Clerk's office is not permitted to provide legal advice and will often redirect someone to www.nycourts.gov or to consult with an attorney.

6. How do I transfer property to someone else?: We would recommend that you speak with a lawyer to get assistance in preparing the necessary documents to complete this conveyance. A deed, TP584 form and RP5217 form would all be necessary for the County Clerk's office to record this conveyance.

7. Can I get a copy of my Judgment of Divorce, if it was filed in Cortland County?: Yes with photo identification the County Clerk's office can prepare a copy of your Judgment of Divorce. Copies are $0.65 per page ($1.30 minimum) and a certified copy is $1.25 per page ($5.00 minimum). Only the parties to the action and the attorneys on record can obtain copies of a Judgment of Divorce.

8. Can I get a copy of my Birth Certificate?: The County Clerk's office does not maintain copies of Birth Certificates. The clerk in the town/city where you were born maintains these copies. For example if you were born at Cortland Regional Medical Center (formerly known as Cortland Memorial Hospital) the Cortland City Clerk would have this record. They can be contacted at 607-756-6521 or visit their website (www.cortland.org) for additional information.

9. Can I obtain a Death Certificate from your office?: The County Clerk does not issue Death Certificates. These are issued by the clerk where the person passed away. For example if the person passed away at home, in the Town of Cortlandville, the Cortlandville Town Clerk would have this record.

10. How do I find out if there is a lien on a piece of property?: The Cortland County public records are available online at www.searchiqs.com. Additional information on how to search these records is found on our Search Public Records page. The property owner's name is necessary to perform a search. The Tax Map ID number or property address cannot be used in the search. Contact the Cortland County Real Property office (607-753-5040) for assistance in identifying an owner. An abstract company can also be contacted to prepare or update a title for property.

11. How do I find out how much I owe in back taxes?: Contact the Cortland County Treasurer's office for information on back taxes at 607-753-5070.

12. Can I pay for traffic violations at the County Clerk's office?: The Cortland County Clerk's office does not maintain records of traffic infractions. The court within the town/city where the ticket was issued should be contacted.
