DISCUSSION/COMMITTEE ACTION

Letter from District Attorney re: County Courthouse RenovationsScott Schrader, Legislative Chairman Marilyn Brown, Buildings & Grounds Chairman, Steve Dafoe, and JPS Chairman John Daniels received a letter from District Attorney David Hartnett of which was reviewed by the General Services Committee members at their meeting and was also distributed and reviewed by the Judiciary & Public Safety Committee.  In the letter Mr. Hartnett detailed reasons why he does not want to move his office from its present location.  Scott Schrader advised the Committee that they will be sitting down with occupants of the Courthouse to discuss the plans for the Courthouse.  Scott further advised the Committee that Mr. Hartnett was a part of the initial Courthouse renovations planning process.  In essence Mr. Hartnett just does not want to move from his present location.

Sheriff Department- Sell two (Drug Forfeiture) vehicles:

Sheriff Lee Price and Undersheriff Herb Barnhart explained that these vehicles are very expensive to maintain, there are no local service stations in Cortland so the vehicles have to be taken to Syracuse.  Lee Price indicated that they are going to accept bids first and if they do not sell they will go to auction.  Lee Price only needs the Committee’s blessing to proceed.  By a concensus of the JPS Committee it was approved that the 2 vehicles be sold.

Watkins Glen – Lee Price advised the Committee that 9 Sheriff’s Deputies will be working at the Watkins Glen races this weekend.

Virgil Tower – Bob Duell advised the Committee that the Virgil Communications Tower was struck by lightening.  They had it repaired and everyone is using it.  He would like name it Fire/Emergency Management Communications.  It was suggested that a policy be written.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:05a.m

Minutes taken and prepared by Angie Wyatt, Secretary to Scott Schrader
