       BEFORE SCHOOL PROGRAM DIRECTOR (PT)

 

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Plans, conducts, and participates in the daily Before‑School Program for children.  The work is performed under the general supervision of the Youth Commission of the Town of Virgil (Y. C.).  Supervision may be exercised over the work of volunteers.  Does related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The incumbent of this position coordinates the daily activities of the town's Before‑School Program. This person also has supervisory responsibilities.  However, it is not necessary that this person be a professional education:  the educational responsibilities of this position resemble those of the Teacher Aide title used in school districts under the jurisdiction of the Cortland County Personnel Office.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  (Illustrative only)

Plans daily activities and projects for the children using educational books, magazines, and other resources;

Works directly with the children in all activities;

Plans, prepares, or orders snacks;

Attends Youth Commission meetings to plan activities, discuss organizational concerns, and make recommendations concerning curriculum content;

Meets with the Commission to review lesson plans and solve problems;

Prepares and maintains a variety of written records and reports such as attendance, expenses, receipts, and accident reports;

Administers first aid as required;

Collects fees and issues receipts.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good general intelligence; ability to establish good relationships with children and others; good knowledge of child behavior; working knowledge of basic first aid techniques; good background or knowledge in specific field where specialized duties are involved; ability to maintain discipline; tact; courtesy; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A.  Graduation from high school supplemented by additional experience in a particular field where       specialized duties are involved; OR

 

B.   Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
