CASE AIDE
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work involves responsibility for providing
administrative support services to assist higher level staff in performing
other professional functions. The work
is primarily administrative in nature, however, an incumbent of this class also
performs research on cases, has contact
with providers, clients, and members of the public, and may make eligibility
determinations on a limited scale. The
work is performed according to Federal, State and local social service
regulations under the supervision of a higher level staff person. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Assists caseworkers and Social Welfare Examiners in carrying out service plans for clients;
Consults with both families and providers in person, by
phone and by letter;
Acts as a liaison between clients and other units of the
Department of Social Services to ensure that benefits have been applied for and
authorizing paperwork is processed;
Assists with determining services program eligibility,
authorizing services and payments including representative/protective payee,
and enrolling eligible families into appropriate programs according to Federal,
State and local social service regulations;
Prepares progress-notes and other documentation related to
services or contacts with clients and families;
Reviews various client paperwork submitted to the agency
related to eligibility determination or other program activities;
Reports orally and in writing to higher level staff
regarding cases with which he or she is involved;
Transports and accompanies clients (individuals, children
and parents) to appointments and
delivers legal paperwork as needed;
Performs home visits for the purpose of obtaining
information relevant to casework or benefit determination needs;
Performs parenting instruction and educational activities;
Attends case related meetings including Service Plan Reviews
and Family Group Meetings;
Provides respite services to children in foster care;
Supervise visitation for foster children and families;
Provides in home support to foster parents;
Performs basic office and clerical duties including typing,
answering phones, and filing;
Administers budgets established and issued by caseworkers
and/or social welfare examiners;
May receive reports of Child Abuse or neglect, performs
initial searches pertaining to case histories, assigns case numbers and routes
cases to caseworkers;
May attend Family Court for the purpose of documenting court
activities.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of social services programs and other
community resources;
Working knowledge of social services eligibility criteria;
Working knowledge of modern principles and practices of
social casework;
Working knowledge of Federal, State and local social service
regulations;
Working knowledge of the social sciences, including
sociology, psychology and/or human services;
Ability to make arithmetic computations involving fractions,
decimals and percentages accurately;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with social service providers, clients and co-workers;
Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common
office software programs;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing;
Ability to interpret and follow written and oral
instructions;
Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in a public or private agency providing patient or client services.
