CENSUS TAKER

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Takes yearly census of all families in the school district; does related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine canvassing work requir­ing care and accuracy in gathering information and compiling reports.  Work is preformed under the general direction of the Board of Education or desig­nated school official.  The position is part‑time in nature since work is usually performed during the summer months.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  (Illustrative only)

Calls on every family residing in the school district and interviews parents or guardians;

Records name, date of birth, sex, and address of every child under 18 years  of age;

Arranges and compiles data and submits report to the Board of Education.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of the geography of the school district; working knowledge of elementary clerical procedures; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; tact and courtesy; good physical condition.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Since the position of Census Taker is in the exempt class, there are no minimum requirements.  However, it is suggested that appointees be high school graduates or have had clerical experience suffi­cient to indicate ability to do the work.
