DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position exists in the Cortland County
Soil and Water Conservation District and performs a variety of technical duties
related to the establishment of conservation practices concerning land and
water on public and private properties.
Employees in this class are expected to assist directly in various projects such as engineering surveys,
collecting water samples and data, and assisting with informational/educational
activities related to natural resource conservation. Work is performed under the direct
supervision of the District Manager.
Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Engineering surveys for soil
and water conservation practices;
Reducing and plotting survey
notes;
Collecting water samples and
other monitoring data;
Supporting Agricultural
Environmental Management by completing risk assessments and inventories,
compiling resource data and maps, performing field crop scouting, and
developing plans;
Information/education
activities related to natural resource conservation and other public outreach
programs as assigned.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of natural resource
conservation; Knowledge of agricultural operations and practices;
Ability to compile data and prepare written documents; Good verbal and
interpersonal communication skills; Ability to get along good with others;

Mechanical aptitude; Accuracy; Reliability; Physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
A.
Graduation from
high school or possession of a NYS equivalency diploma.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a NYS
Driver’s License.
