DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This position exists in the Cortland County Soil and Water
Conservation District and involves responsibility for planning and
administering a public relations program and disseminating information on
events and programs. The work involves
writing and presentation of informational materials. The incumbent has considerable contact with
the public, builds good will for the district and gains support for services
and programs. The work is performed
under the general supervision of the District Manager, with leeway allowed in
carrying out details of the work. Does
related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Coordinates the Conservation
Field Days,
Develops displays and
information/education materials for presentations and workshops;
Publishes district
newsletters and other news articles;
Implementation of assigned
SWCD programs such as the Seedling Program, Pond Stocking Programs, and
Agricultural Assessment Program;
Organizing and maintaining
library resources and educational materials;
Coordinates
information/education programs related to natural resource conservation and
other public outreach programs as assigned;
Performs other education and
conservation duties as assigned.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of natural resource
conservation. Knowledge of agricultural
operations and practices. Ability to
compile data and prepare written documents.
Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Intermediate personal computer skills
including experience is use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet
software. Good organizational and time
management skills. Must be dependable
and enthusiastic. Physical conditional
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
A.
Graduation from
a regionally accredited NYS registered college or university with an
Associate's Degree or higher in Natural Resource Conservation, Recreation or
related field AND at least one (1) year of related professional experience in
education, natural resource conservation, recreation; OR
B.
Graduation from
high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND three (3)
years of related professional experience in Natural Resource Conservation,
Recreation, Education or related field; OR
C.
An equivalent
combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid NYS Driver's License at time of appointment.
