DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine manual work involving responsibility for the safe and
efficient operation of motor equipment in the receipt and delivery of mail,
supplies, and equipment within the school district. The incumbent is also responsible for the
performance of routine building cleaning and grounds maintenance activities. The work is performed under general
supervision in accordance with established procedures. Supervision of other employees is not
normally a responsibility of this position.
A Courier does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Operates a motor vehicle to pick‑up,
sort, and deliver mail, educational supplies and equipment within the school
district;
Operates a motor vehicle to
receive band deliver bank deposits;
Maintains a simple log of
pick0up and delivery activities;
Sweeps, mops, and vacuums
floors;
Dusts chairs, tables, desks,
shelves and other furniture;
Cleans sinks, toilets, and
restocks soap and towel dispensers;
Performs routine groundskeeping activities such as
mowing lawns, trimming shrubs, and
shoveling snow from sidewalks;
Arranges tables and chairs for
meetings and school assemblies;
May load and unload trucks as
required;
May assist superiors in the
performance of semi‑skilled building maintenance and repair activities on
an occasional basis.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Working knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of motor equipment; working knowledge of building cleaning and grounds maintenance methods and materials; skill in the safe and efficient operation of motor equipment; ability to perform routine building cleaning and ground maintenance activities; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to lift heavy objects; ability to prepare and maintain simple written records; manual dexterity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession
of an appropriate operator's license issued by the New York State Department of
Motor Vehicles is required at the time of appointment.
