DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work involves responsibility for
transporting clients to and from appointments and activities such as medical,
school, work, shopping, recreation and other activities. In addition, the incumbent delivers meals or
materials and maintains a daily log of transportation activities. The work is
performed under the general supervision with leeway allowed for the exercise of
independent judgement in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as
required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Operates a van or
other vehicle for the transport of clients, food or materials;
Maintains a daily log of passengers and materials being transported and their destinations;
Reports any mechanical defects, major or minor accidents to
immediate supervisor;
Makes special trips to gather information or assist clients
as assigned;
May collect fees/donations.
May answer telephone, copy documents, or file
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of
safe driving practices, traffic laws and regulations;
Good knowledge of
local geography and roads;
Good knowledge of local community service agencies;
Ability to drive safely and to read road maps;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with others;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing;
Physical condition commensurate
with the demands of the position.
