DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine manual work in grounds maintenance activities.  Assignments are outlined in general and work is inspected frequently; may work independently.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  (Illustrative only)

Mows, rakes and cuts grass;

Maintains and lines athletic fields;

Keeps grounds free of litter;

Plants and cares for trees, shrubs, and plants;

Removes snow and ice from walks, pathways, steps and driveways;

May perform minor maintenance tasks;

May operate a motor vehicle in transporting refuse or snowplowing;

May prepare graves and be responsible for the upkeep of burial plots;

When not working as a Groundskeeper, does cleaning and other manual work.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Some knowledge of grounds maintenance activities;

Willingness to perform routine manual work;

Knowledge of power motors and routine maintenance on small equipment;

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a class D New York State Driver's license.
