DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The
work involves responsibility for leading and participating in the county
landfill operations. The incumbent
monitors and participates in the skilled operation and preventive maintenance
of specialized heavy motor equipment, leads subordinates and oversees all
operations and personnel at the landfill.
In addition, the incumbent works with public and private haulers and the
general public using the landfill. The
work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant General
Highway Supervisor according to established techniques and procedures. Does
related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Leads the day-to-day operation of the landfill, including the operation of equipment;
Leads and participates in the general maintenance and
repairs of landfill motor equipment;
Ensures repairs, maintenance and orders repair parts;
Leads and participates in snow removal activities at the
landfill;
Responds to inquiries, requests, etc., from individuals and
private and public haulers using the landfill;
Enforces established safety rules and regulations;
Maintains a variety of records and reports of activities;
Responsible for the daily landfill records and preparation
of receipts for deposit.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of landfill operations;
Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy motor equipment used at a landfill facility;
Good knowledge of the safety precautions required and hazards involved in the operation of heavy motor equipment;

MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
a) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience as a motor equipment operator in construction, landfill operations or related activities; OR
b) Four (4) years paid experience as defined in (a).
SPECIAL
REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid New York State Class B Driver’s License with air brake and tank endorsement required. Failure to maintain a New York State Class B Driver's License with all required endorsements will result in disciplinary action or dismissal.
