DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This work consists of erection, installation and maintenance of overhead and underground electric power distribution lines. Work requires climbing of poles in all kinds of weather conditions and rigid observance of safety precautions to prevent personal injuries. Work is performed under general supervision of the Superintendent and inspected while in progress and upon completion. Supervision may be exercised over laborers. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative
only)
Digs holes, sets and guys poles for electric power lines;
Strings electric power lines on poles and through underground conduits;
Installs cross arms, hardware and transformers on power
poles;
Trims and cuts trees in right of way of power lines;
Repairs, tests, and
reads meters;
Installs and
maintains street lighting fixtures;
Runs service drops from poles to homes and buildings;
Installs cutouts, fuses, arresters, insulators, and switches
on power poles;
Repairs damage done to electric lines by storms and
accidents;
May perform maintenance work on street and water systems
when needed to the limit of skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
A.
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma and one (1) year experience as a lineman helper, electric groundsman or
apprentice electrician on a power distribution system; or
B.
Two (2) years of experience as a lineman helper, electrical groundsman,
or apprentice electrician on a power distribution system; or
C.
An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in A
and B above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Eligibility for New Your State CDL Drivers
License.
