MOTOR
VEHICLE DIRECTOR
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The
work involves responsibility for directing the activities of and supervising
the work of all employees in the Motor Vehicle Bureau. The incumbent develops and recommends
adoption of internal policies and procedures to provide and maintain the
efficient operation of the bureau. Work
is performed under the general supervision of the
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative

Works with the
Plans, directs and coordinates various functions of the
Bureau such as accounting, payroll and clerical;
Implements new programs, procedures and methods in order to
achieve better efficiency;
Accounts for monies received in the bureau;
Maintains financial accounts and records;
Keeps abreast of new laws and impending charges to the
Vehicle and Traffic Law as they pertain to the bureau so that necessary charges
can be initiated promptly and effectively;
Enters and retrieves
data through the use of a computer terminal;
Trains, supervises,
evaluates and disciplines staff;
Coordinates the Motor
Vehicle Bureau’s purchases with vendors and purchasing;
Disseminates information to the public on all phases of the
law and procedures relating to Motor Vehicles.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS:
Thorough knowledge of pertinent sections of the Vehicle and
Traffic Law as they relate to the issuance of licenses and registrations;
Good knowledge of modern methods used in keeping and
checking financial accounts and records, including financial computer software;
Ability to operate personal computer and utilize common
office software programs including word processing, spreadsheets and databases;
Ability to understand and interpret complex oral
instructions and/or written directions;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with others;
Ability to plan and supervise the work of others;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing;
Ability to prepare correspondence and reports;
Ability to perform close, detail work involving considerable
visual effort and concentration;
Ability to deal effectively with the public;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either:
(a)
Graduation
from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (4)
years of clerical, account keeping or business experience; or
(b)
Six (6) years
of experience as defined in (a); or
(c)
An equivalent
combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a), and
(b).
