DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work
involves responsibility for implementation and upgrading of software and
hardware for local area networks and microcomputers (PCS and MACs).
An employee in this class installs, operates, and maintains personal
computer software and hardware.
Supervision is received from an Administrative Superior. Performs related work as
required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots software and hardware (including
upgrades) on local area networks (LAN), workstations, and stand-alone personal
computers for the district;
Evaluates
and makes recommendations for software and hardware purchases;
Troubleshoots
software and hardware application problems on personal computers
for the district;
Provides
phone/e-mail support of software and hardware to district staff;
Assists
staff in the proper use of personal computer and peripheral equipment;
Assists
with mass duplication of software when necessary;
Prepares documentation for users of personal computers as needed.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Troubleshooting skills; good knowledge of the use and operation of personal
computers and related peripheral equipment; ability to adapt purchases software
and hardware to existing applications; working knowledge of office terminology
and procedures; ability to operate a personal computer and peripheral
equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to instruct
others in the use and adaptability of personal computers and purchases software
and hardware; ability to work well with others; physical condition commensurate
with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A.
Graduation from
a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a
baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or a closely related field; OR
B.
Gradation from a regionally accredited or NYS
registered college or university with an associate’s degree in Computer Science
or a closely related field AND two (2) years of experience or its
part-time equivalent in the operation of personal computers or peripheral
equipment; OR
C.
Four (4) years of work experience or its part-time
equivalent in the operation of personal computers or peripheral equipment; OR
D.
An equivalent combination of education and experience
as described above.
