DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This
is a professional position responsible for supervising a day treatment program
for severely mentally disabled adults.
The work involves responsibility for coordinating and monitoring
services provided and acting as administrator for the program. The Mental Health Continuing Day Treatment
Program Director is supervised by the Director of Community Mental Health and
the Administrative Officer with wide leeway for independent judgement
allowed. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Performs utilization
review in relation to day treatment program;
Monitors spending and
makes purchase decisions for program;
Interfaces with other
agencies and County officers;
Participates in
service coordination and planning of services;
Processes intakes and
requests for information;
Conducts meetings,
plans time to develop programs and new initiatives
Provides services and
counseling to assigned caseload;
Plans and facilitates
groups as needed;
Consults with team
members;
Discusses cases
accordingly as a team;
Reviews clinical
records.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Thorough knowledge of mental illnesses, psychopathology and clinical diagnostic systems;
Good knowledge of the
skills needed to supervise subordinates;
Good communication
skills;
Ability to engage
seriously mentally ill adults;
Good crisis
intervention skills;
Ability to prepare
written records and reports;
Physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a
regionally accredited or NYS recognized college or university with a Master’s
degree in Social Work, Psychology, Rehabilitation or a closely related field
AND four years of full-time paid experience or its part-time equivalent
providing direct services to clients with mental illness, mental retardation,
developmental disabilities or alcohol or substance abuse problems, two years of
which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
SPECIAL
REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a license as a “Licensed Master Social Worker” issued by the New York State Department of Education at time of appointment.
