DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  This is a part time technical position involving the responsibility for the installation, user support, and problem diagnosis of software programs that are part of a city-wide Personal Computer Network.  The work is performed under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Administration and Finance with considerable leeway for independent action and judgment while performing details of the work.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  (Illustrative only)

Resolve problems with software program and/or computer;

Provides trouble-shooting for users as needed;

Trains user in newly designed or revised programs;

Provides technical assistance to network users of standard software application programs;

Implement software on personal computer;

Revise and update existing software systems in response to changing regulations, improved software, and user needs.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of the principles and practices of computer operations; good knowledge of agency personal computer equipment and software; good knowledge of personal computer terminology and procedures; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to work well with others; initiative; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A.            Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered two-year college with an associate's degree in Data Processing, computer Science, or related field;  OR

B.            Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of full-time paid experience or its part-time paid equivalent in computer operations; OR

C.        An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

 

NOTE: Course of study in software programs can be substituted for the experience based on the following formula:

 

            Each three-credit-hour course/continuing education course = one month of experience.
