DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The
work involves responsibility for assisting school personnel in performing
assigned routine tasks which require the supervision and care of students. This class differs from that of Teacher Aide,
which requires more specific skills or abilities. The work is performed under direct
supervision of the building principal, teacher or transportation staff
personnel.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Assists teachers in supervising recreation lunch periods,
study halls and parking lot;
Maintains order in gymnasiums, locker rooms, cafeteria,
school corridors or resource room;
Supervises students when loading and unloading buses;
Maintains order and enforces transportation rules and
policies on buses;
May render elementary first aid treatment;
When not involved in supervision, may assist students in
locating and using resource material;
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of the
school’s policies regarding ability to deal with stressful discipline
situations;
Ability to get along
well with students and command their respect;
Tact;
Patience;
Firmness;
Some knowledge of
first aid methods;
Good judgment;
Physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
None
are required, however, a demonstrated effectiveness with children is desirable.
