SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER MANAGER

 

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

 

The work involves responsibility for overseeing the operation of a Senior Citizen Center.  The work includes providing and coordinating meal service, supportive services and recreation activities and maintaining routine records.  The work is performed under general supervision of the Nutrition Program Director.  This incumbent in this position may direct the work of volunteers and employees.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:     (Illustrative only)

Plans, organizes, promotes and directs varied services and activities designed

            to meet the needs of senior citizens;

Provides meal services;

Provides a safe and stimulating environment for the participants;

Provides and disseminates information in regards to center’s services;

Prepares reports as requested and required by the County and State Office for the Aging;

Adheres to Health Department Sanitation regulations;

Refers participants to available services;

Serves as liaison between Center Council and Nutrition Program;

Keeps simple supply and attendance records;

May provide transportation to the meal site for senior citizens;

May transport food to nutrition site;

May supervise and maintain food pantry for emergency services to the public.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: 

 

Good knowledge of the needs and interests of senior citizens;

Good knowledge of kitchen and food sanitation;

Working knowledge of community resources available to senior citizens;

Ability to relate to senior citizens;

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;

Ability to deal effectively with the public;

Ability to understand and empathize with the needs and concerns of others;

Ability to direct the work of others;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One (1) year of paid experience or its verifiable part-time volunteer equivalent working with the public, six months of which must have been dealing directly with senior citizens.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is required.  Failure to maintain a NYS driver’s license including driving privileges throughout employment will result in disciplinary action or dismissal.
