DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves relieving school teachers
of that part of their duties which while related to the teaching process, can
be performed by non-professional personnel.
The Teacher Aide II works under the direct supervision of the Special
Education Teacher in the self-contained Option II Learning Class with 12
students as mandated in the Part 200 Regulations.

ACTIVITIES:

Helps
classified students with instructional assignments and reinforcements
activities using learning materials;
Aids the
teacher in the preparation of audio-visual materials;
Helps the
teacher with computer-aided instruction;
Aids the
teacher with remediating students' specific academic deficits;
Aids the
teacher in implementing the testing modifications as designated;
Performs tasks of a clerical nature,
correcting tests, recording information, operating copy machines, filing, preparing statistical
reports;
Supervises students during the lunch
period, during study periods, at playground activities, in the corridors, and
during the loading and unloading of buses.
FULL
PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good general intelligence, ability to
establish good relationship with children, especially those with special needs;
familiarity with classroom routine, ability to follow written and verbal
instructions, pleasant personality, caring attitude, good communication
skills. Successful completion of
district-wide in-service training dealing with the unique needs of classified
special education students.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
A: Graduation
from a standard high school or high school equivalency diploma AND
six (6) months experience as a tutor, teacher assistance, or teacher aide; OR
B: Six
(6) months experience in a particular field where specialized duties are
involved; OR
C. Any
equivalent combination of experience and training.
