WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work involves responsibility for the skilled repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment and machinery. The incumbent implements a preventive maintenance program for plant equipment and machinery and performs skilled repairs. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and the general supervision of the Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Implements a preventive maintenance program for mechanical
and electrical process equipment
and machinery;
Inventories, stocks, budgets for and orders and receives
parts and equipment relative to the
operation of a wastewater treatment plant;
Installs, repairs and maintains or rebuilds equipment and machinery relative to the physical plant and its processes including boilers, generators, heating and cooling processes and variable frequency drives;
Creates and maintains computerized and written records
relative to the installation, repair and
maintenance of plant equipment and machinery;
Performs on-call repair and replacement for malfunctioning
and/or broken plant equipment and machinery.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good
knowledge of equipment, machinery, and processes utilized in wastewater treatment systems;
Good
knowledge of the tools, equipment and terminology used in the installation, rebuilding and maintenance and repair of
wastewater treatment systems;
Ability to plan, schedule and implement a preventive maintenance program;
Ability to install, rebuild and make skilled repairs to equipment and machinery relative to a wastewater treatment plant;
Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files;
Ability to analyze and organize data and prepare records and reports;
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
Skill in the operation repair of pumps, valves and related mechanical and electrical equipment;
Mechanical aptitude;
Physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time equivalent,
in the maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment or similar mechanical,
hydraulic and electrical equipment and controls.
Special Requirement: Possession of
an operator’s license issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. The incumbent must obtain a CDL Class B
license within one year of the date of appointment and retain said license for
the duration of employment.
