WORKING FOREPERSON (HIGHWAY)
DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is
manual work of ordinary difficulty involving responsibility for acting as work
leader over a group of laborers and equipment operators. A Working
Foreperson serves as a “straw boss” and as such actively participates in work
projects. Does related
work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Leads and
participates in the construction of gravel, macadam, asphalt, or concrete roads;
Leads and
participates in excavation, drainage, and embankment projects;
Leads and
participates in the cleaning of ditches, culverts, and basins, and leaf
removal;
Leads and
participates in the cutting of brush, trimming of trees, and setting of guide
posts;
Leads and
participates in snow removal activities;
Ensures
that activities are conducted in accordance with highway safety rules and OSHA
required mandates;
Leads and
participates in general repair and construction of bridge projects;
Oversees
the servicing of trucks and equipment;
Leads and
participates in ordinary building, cleaning and maintenance tasks, including
the park, library and Hendricks House;
Participates
in operating heavy equipment in connection with above work;
Maintains
tools and motor equipment;
Maintains
inventory of and purchases parts and supplies necessary for operation of
department;
Performs
upkeep and repair of all village owned buildings;
Maintains
village owned swimming pool;
Assists in
installation, operation, maintenance and repair of sewer/water distribution
systems;
Attends Village Board meetings to provide monthly status reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2)
years of experience in general labor or construction work or road work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid NYS Class B
Driver’s License with air brake. Failure
to maintain a NYS Class B Driver’s License with all endorsements will result in
disciplinary action or dismissal.
