ASSISTANT HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING SPECIALIST

 

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

 

This is a fairly specific class involving skill in a variety of maintenance and repair work relating to support systems in buildings.  Work is performed under direct supervision of the Heating and Air Conditioning Specialist.  Does related work as required. 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative only)

 

Assists the Heating and Air Conditioning Specialist in the installing, inspecting, testing, diagnosing problems with, maintaining and servicing a wide variety of equipment and fixtures comprising support systems.  Primary duties will relate to heating, ventilating, air conditioning and temperature control systems;

May assume operation of Clever Brooks boilers and Centrifugal Chiller and evaporative cooling tower with related pumps, valves, plumbing, piping, fixtures, traps, gauges, coils, gaskets, etc.;

May make minor electrical installments and repairs;

Is responsible for general housekeeping activities in areas of his duties;

Records data on maintenance of various systems;

Performs such other duties as may be requested by the Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds and the Heating and Air Conditioning Specialist.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Familiar with all aspects of mechanical systems used to control building environments.  This includes but is not limited to all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems and control devices;

Must be able to read and understand mechanical and electrical blueprints and take direction;

Must be thorough, dependable and physically capable of lifting, carrying, climbing and crawling to accomplish tasks.

 

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or GED required.  One year of full-time paid experience or its part-time equivalent in building maintenance operations required.
