Boater Safety Course

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Department will be
offering a boater's safety course on May 17th and 18th at the Cortland
Armory Located on Wheeler Ave in the City of Cortland.
Those wishing to attend this course must Pre-register at the
Cortland County Sheriff’s Department, or by calling Pam McLean at
607-758-6150. This course will be held at the Cortland Armory located
at 25 Wheeler Ave, Cortland, N.Y. 13045. Space is limited for the free
course, which will be offered on May 17th and May 18th, 2008, starting
at 8:00am both days.
Youths between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age must take the
course and earn a safety certificate before they may lawfully operate
a powerboat alone in New York State. The sheriff's Department would
also like to remind anyone wishing to operate a Personal Watercraft or
Jet Ski, must also attend this course and receive a certificate before
they can legally operate a personal watercraft.
The course, sponsored by the New York State Office of Parks,
Recreation and Historic Preservation and the State Bureau of Marine
and Recreational Vehicles, is being offered locally by the Cortland
County Sheriff’s Department.
