GENERAL INFORMATION

The Cortland County Treasurer’s Office:

    Is responsible for bank accounts, accounting records, and investment of County Funds.

    Serves as custodian of court and trust funds, bail and certain other assets in which the County, State or other beneficiary may have an interest. The Treasurer also acts as public administrator of estates upon appointment of the court.

    Issues Certificates of Residence to students attending community colleges

    Distributes sales tax money to various municipalities in the County

    Provides town and county tax searches

    The Treasurer serves as the chief tax enforcement officer for the County. The Treasurer’s Office functions as the collection agency for the towns, villages and school districts in the County when taxes become delinquent.
