DID YOU KNOW...? According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute researcher Jacqueline Narroch, "About 20% of the decrease [in teen pregnancy rates] since the late 1980s is because of the decreased sexual activity and 80% of the decrease is because of more effective contraception practices." (The News and Observer 4/29/99) Adolescent males are significantly more likely than females to feel pressure from friends to have sex. (Journal of School Health, 1995) According to the Urban Institute, (1998) teen males' reproductive behavior is open to change; their condom use doubled between 1979 and 1988 and continued to increase through the 1990s. |
