HIV Prevention Media Campaign
In November 1999, ZAP launched a new media campaign with a clear message: safer sex or no sex. The campaign consists of many components which keep this message highly visible. This project was funded by New York State Health Department's AIDS Institute. From November 1998 through April 1999, ZAP ran five billboards in strategic locations throughout Cortland County. The AIDS Institute was so impressed, they sent a representative to photograph each of the five billboards. Other components of the media campaign included refrigerator magnets, coasters, and a series of four posters with messages specific to the establishment they were posted in (restaurant, bar, retail store, etc.). The coasters, with the message "No Cover, No Admission" were distributed in commemoration of World AIDS Day on December 1, 1999. The poster series encourages people to think before they have sex. For a closer look at the posters, click on the thumbnails above or the text links below. The ZAP Program continues to use these methods to keep the message of safer sex prominent in our community.
