Each month the Cortland Standard publishes 'Got Questions' a teen column written by a ZAP-PEER. Ally is the ZAP-PEER featured this month. Ally is a sophomore from Cortland High School and has been in ZAP for one year. What does a ZAP-PEER do? A Cortland County ZAP-PEER learns about STD’s, contraceptives (a.k.a. Birth control), sexuality, self-value, respect and how to teach these things to their peers. We also get to meet all different kinds of new people. A ZAP-PEER must keep information confidential, be themselves, and be open minded. As always, being a ZAP-PEER is fun. How do I become a ZAP-PEER? In order to become a ZAP-PEER you must fill out an application stating your name, address and phone number, grade level and reason for wanting to become a ZAP-PEER. Next, you set up an interview with the current ZAP-PEERS. If you are chosen to be a PEER you will receive a letter in the mail and a contract to sign accepting your spot as a ZAP-PEER. We are recruiting students to become ZAP-PEERS for next year, so anyone that is going to be in 9th –12th grade next year is eligible to apply. If you want an application or want more information, contact Cindy Grey, ZAP-PEERS Coordinator at 753-5374 or the PEERS from your school. Any questions can also be emailed to zappeers@cortland-co.org Ally would also like everyone to know that May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is offering an on-line quiz for teens to take about teen pregnancy. Take the Quiz today at www.teenpregnancy.org Got questions?
