Jessica M. Weyant has been appointed Chief Assistant District Attorney for Cortland County as of September 2023. She is an experienced attorney who previously worked in private practice in Ithaca, NY from November 2010-October 2015.
Jessica received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Clark University in 2006, followed by her Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law in 2009. She is duly licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and New York State. She returned to NY following law school and began working in private practice in Ithaca, NY, handling cases and governing issues specific to criminal law, family law, estate planning, wills and trusts, and real estate proceedings. She left private practice in October 2015 to join the Cortland County District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor.
She has progressed through the ranks from Assistant District Attorney, to First Assistant District Attorney and now Chief Assistant District Attorney. She has been the primary special victims’ prosecutor since 2018, and in that role handles all levels of cases dealing with victims of child abuse, child and adult sexual abuse victims and victims of domestic violence. That role is the most difficult and most rewarding role she has been assigned to in this office.
She enjoys being a prosecutor and working her hardest in her role in the system to obtain a fair result while serving her community and seeking justice. Jessica grew up in Groton, NY and now resides in Homer.
